Biography

Morgan Cohen (born 1972, Colorado, USA) is a widely-exhibited  photographer currently based in Boston. He is obsessed with the transformative nature of photography, observing the effects of light over time through the isolation of form.

His work has been shown in galleries and museums in the USA, and collected in private and corporate collections.

Work

Morgan's work focuses on elements of the world around all of us, primarily the built environment, where even though we are always looking at these palces, isolating them in a photograh seems to make them more special.

By isolating form in the photograph, there is a call to attention to that place. Morgan photographs these spaces often over a long period of time even for each exposure, which creates an experience of space over time, resulting in an ethereal space or a meditative image. Sometimes barely there - and other times saturated and deeply colorful, the images play to the viewer's notions of what the image is "of" while being pulled out of that place to an experience of the photograph as its own new space.

His photos establish a link between the light and shape in the world. The forms in the photographs are created by the framing, depth, light, focus, and other characteristics of photography,  creating moments for breathing room and contemplation in a space that might bever be considered in that way.
